I first heard about Al Chile when my boyfriend Edward came home from work one day raving about this burrito he had for lunch from this food van. For the next few weeks he kept insisting we hunt it down the next time we were in Cambridge and then we finally did. At first I was a bit apprehensive, not being the biggest fan of burritos, but when I saw they had quesadillas on the menu I started to get excited, especially after the rave reviews from Edward.
Firstly, it's pretty easy to spot this van on the side of the road. It arrives at a different location each day in Cambridge (updating everyone on Facebook as to their whereabouts) and makes a really aesthetically pleasing change from the typical white food van. Their decor is one of their unique selling points and I think it works great in terms of attracting customers.

The general idea of Al Chile is you pick a base, a filling, then any extras. I went for a quesadilla with chicken and chipotle mayo, whilst Edward chose a burrito with chile con carne and tijuana salsa. The price is pretty reasonable considering the portion sizes - both me and Edward failed to finish our meals. Also, 30p for a generous pot of chipotle mayo is a bargain in my eyes - it's so good.
The quesadillas come packaged in these cute little brown boxes, complete with a wooden disposable knife and fork. Within the tortillas is a cheesy, chicken filled, melty goodness basically. When dipped in the chipotle mayo it's just a really great combination for carb lovers, with a little kick of spice. This can of Rio that I've never noticed for sale anywhere else compliments it really well to create the right balance of sweet with the savoury.
Edward's burrito, which came wrapped in foil, was almost the size of his arm (speaking of which, Al Chile sells a "Man vs Burrito" challenge style burrito that is probably double the length and priced at £13.50). I asked him how it tasted and his response was: "Like fire" - make of that what you wish.
If you're a fan of mexican food and visiting Cambridge I would definitely recommend hunting Al Chile down. If they were a restaurant as opposed to a food van, I would still be incredibly impressed with the taste of their food, and in my eyes they are revolutionising the standard British food van industry. Their website even has a write up of the all the health benefits of their food. This is all very high praise, but I genuinely have nothing bad to say about my experience there and as I'm writing this review I am in fact craving that quesadilla with intent to get my hands on one in the very near future.
Al Chile can be found on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and at their website.
